Story

Obol House Publishing Company, an imprint of Huntsville Independent Press, was founded with a mission rooted in the ancient practice of honoring the stories that deserve to be told. The name “Obol House” is inspired by the Ancient Greek tradition of placing an obol—a small coin—in the mouth of the deceased, a token for the ferryman to grant passage across the river Styx. Just as this coin provided a way for souls to cross into the afterlife, Obol House exists to provide a passage for stories that might otherwise go unheard.

We believe in the brilliance of the stories we all carry within us. Obol House is dedicated to giving authors who struggle to find a home for their work elsewhere the opportunity to see their books professionally published and ethically marketed. Our commitment is to the fair treatment of every author, ensuring that their stories are not just shared, but honored.
